Winter Self-Care: Why Massage Is Even More Important in the Cold Months
As the days get shorter and colder, many of us naturally slow down, but our bodies often feel the effects of winter more than we realise.
Cold weather can make muscles stiff, joints ache, and our energy levels drop. This is the time when our bodies need extra care and warmth, and massage is one of the most nurturing ways to give yourself just that.
Massage Improves Circulation and Keeps You Warm
In winter, our circulation tends to slow down as the body works harder to keep warm. Massage stimulates blood flow, bringing fresh oxygen and nutrients to your muscles and skin. This not only helps you feel warmer and more energised, but also supports a healthy immune system and faster recovery from winter sluggishness.
It Relieves Muscle Tension and Joint Stiffness
It’s no secret that darker days can affect our mood. Massage releases serotonin and endorphins, your body’s natural “happy hormones.” That post-massage glow isn’t just physical; it’s emotional too. It helps lift your spirits, calm your mind, and bring back that sense of balance and lightness.
It’s the Perfect Way to Boost Your Self-Care Routine
Winter often encourages us to take care of others but self-care matters too. A regular massage can be your peaceful moment to pause, recharge, and reconnect with yourself. For busy parents, professionals, or anyone who feels the winter blues, this quiet time can make all the difference.

Regulations and legal obligations of a massage therapist
Massage therapy in the UK isn't legally regulated, so there are no specific legal requirements for therapists. There is no official body that therapists need a license from to practice. However, therapists can choose to register with voluntary regulators, which require certain training and insurance to join.
Why get a massage?
There are many benefits to getting a massage, but also a few contraindications. In this short piece I'll touch on each of these.
Introduction to massage
Massage, at its most basic, is the process of applying touch techniques to soothe and relax the muscles and to relieve pain. In this short series of posts I'll give a background on body work, starting with a lightning overview of the history of massage.
Fund-raising at Bathampton Village Show
I was recently honoured to take part in my local village show, providing chair massages for the visitors in exchange for a donation to the local playground fund. For me personally it was an incredibly rewarding experience, and my customers all loved the personal attention and touch!
